I am an African American and all i wanna know is why do we do this to ourselves?? Why do we keep doing stupid things and deserve not to be punished? Why are the jails filled with black men? Sure the media exxagerates the truth and only reports when one of "US" do something but why do we give them the oppurtunity? Tell me what you think because i cant understand!!

I personally believe we all have a choice in life and everyone expects things to come easy especially wealth. That is why people (espeicially "US") drop out of school because they think it is "too hard" and when they cant find a good job they turn to things as selling **** and believe thats is it for them because the money comes easy but when they get caught and put in jail and still dont learn their lesson and have little kids in now a single parent home the epidemic spreads. Single mom with no support from the father and having to get more than one job to support her "family" = her children getting caught up with the wrong company and things of that sort. Other times if she has the blessings of God on her side her children will not fall into that. However you ask why its a whole string of things but I think it is laziness. We as African Americans know what is right and what is wrong but tend to do the wrong thing a little bit too often hence the rate of blacks in the jail system

Are you doing anything to try to understand this situation? How about doing something to help the situation?

First off, EVERY ethnicity has their stupid points. Not just us. And that really just goes to show, it has little do with our ethnicities and more to do with humanity as a whole. As for why the jails are filled with black men, I have few answers seeing as African-Americans only make up 13% of the country's population.

first of all i am not talking about other ethnicities i am talking about the only one i care about which is mines.. secondly you are absolutely right that all races and cultures have their bouts of stupidity however since african americans are depicted as animals in the wild who only respond to **** and being imprison then you would think that we would like to show the world that isnt the case.. On the other hand we show them the same theory that they already believe and will keep believing until we change. I am proud of who i am i just feel as though we can do better...

For one thing, NO matter what we as a people do, there will always be others who think that we are inferior. We, ourselves, forget who we are and where we came from and how countless cultures owe what they have to our people. Sure, we can do better, but we've first got to KNOW we can do better for ourselves, not just believe that it will happen some day. As Malcolm X once said, "We cannot be acceptable to others, until we are first acceptable to ourselves".

I love my people to death, but as a culture a lot of us do everything backwards. It doesn't matter what part of the country you are in, you can find black people who fit these characteristics. Not all black people are like this (thank God).

Sadly, I agree with most everything you said. I've even been on the receiving end of being called an "oreo" and early in school, I actually got STONED (as in, rocks thrown at me) by my Black peers for speaking properly and having a good work ethic. But at the same time? We need to love each other, you know? We all need to pull together, get things right, and then pass that to our kids.

2 things = Parenting & Education... A black child can go very far with these two things being strong in their lives.
