I quit, you people are impossible, i know that i am right and you are wrong. As Hampton students you are incapable of looking at this issue objectively. I hope that all of you will someday mature onto a level that will allow you to do such things. I see that Hampton has successfully trained you people to deal with any question of Hampton policies as a direct attack on you and your school, as evident in your relatively hostile responses to my statement. I will not deal with such intellectual worthlessness( especially hot_coco 8) ). I can sit and listen to you regurgitate everything in your student handbook all day but that would only annoy me. You are of no use to me as of this point. Im sure a few of you will respond with heated replies, i look forward to reading them as i am always amused at the way people such as yourselves think.
Thanks for the shout out 8) .......I look forward to hearing form you as well, dear "guest" :? **sitting on the edge of my seat to see what school this "guest" goes to**

^^^Why don't you stop making excuses as to why you refuse to read before posting. I wish people would make an effort to read before they make posts or respond to posts. By using basic reading skills, your questions or concerns will have already been addressed. There's no need to respond to posts just to make yourself known. Stop being an attention **** and learn to read :x Back to the subject: For the umpteenth time.........nobody is saying that you can't go to class in flip flops and jeans. Just don't walk out of your dorm with your underwear (ladies) or some boxers and a wife **** on (fellas). It is a dress code not a uniform. In fact, someone already posted our dress code up......perhaps you would like to read it. It says nothing about wearing skirts and vests to class. If you don't like our simple @ss dress code............ .............do us all a favor and don't come to our "snotty **** school" that is filled with "snotty **** people."

i find it kinda funny how people in here are supposed to be "grown" but cant talk or act like it....its a dress code that Hampton set up...its not a big deal. If your not going there then dont worry about it. it really doesnt apply to you. so stop arguing about it forreal. And for the girl/boy who said Hampton is a snotty school for snotty people...HA i laugh at that...i dont even know what to say about that so imma leave it alone

Yeah, I was just about to add that...whoever posted the rules DID post that these were confined to classroom experiences. Besides, like someone else said, Hampton is not the only school with a dress code and guidelines for certain events. As Inside Fisk said, Fisk also has a dress code. At Morehouse, men are to take their hats off inside buildings (there are signs posted in front of some buildings) and you DON'T see anyone walking around with a do-rag on, and they are also not supposed to come to class with pajamas on. At Spelman they have a special uniform for their convocations, inductions, etc. (the white dress with CLOSED TOE black shoes), and you are also not supposed to come to class with pajamas on. I don't go to Hampton, and I'm not going there next year, but I definitely applaud them on their efforts to keep our black students focused on what's important, which is their schoolwork and their dignity. And I applaud the Hamptonians for accepting it and not getting all worked up about it. And, when you attend college, you are still a teenager...you may be 'legally' an adult, but that doesn't mean that one day, you're seventeen and them BOOM the next day you're all of a sudden capable of **** yourself because you're 18. The whole point about college is to ready you for the real world of work, and getting into the habit of a dress code now is preparing you for the dress code you're inevitably going to have when you get a real job. Preparing for the real world, a college education, is more than about learning things in classes. It is also about adopting an adultlike mindset, which obviously these Hamptonians have learned to adopt. The circumstances ARE the same as a professional job...whether or not you're paying or someone's paying you, it is still your privilege to be there, not your right. And although you may not be working with the boss hawking over you, you never know who's watching you. As many students already said, not only do donors/alumni appear on college campuses quite frequently, but corporate officers and members of the working world offering scholarships and internships. If alumni see the school looking ragged, they don't want to contribute to a raggedy school. And how would it look if the day you walked into the interviewer's office for that banking job and the interviewer remembers you as the guy with the wifebeater and boxers in the dining hall (or the lady in the **** shorts)?

Attending college for many graduating seniors or college bound high school students is about freedom of expression. Although a dress code is not a major factor that should be considered when attending an institution of higher learning, it makes you wonder about the platforms that the institution stands for. Something as simple as a dress code, creates the idea of limitations. College is about education, freedom, and finding one's self. Therefore I think that its a little too deep to impose a dress code on supposedly intelligent adults. The ultimate objective is education, not your clothes. Besides your clothes should be an expression of who you are, so if I feel like a halter top today thats what I'm wearing. I pay for an education not a dress code or any other limitations on my individuality. Conformity is not the answer!!!!! Maybe I'm just thinking too deep, but hey thats why I go to HOWARD. The ReAl HU!!!!! HOWARD UNIVERSITY Home of the Bison HU, U KNOW!!!! mseccentrik!!

ok...my 2 cents. 1. I dont understand the hostility with a dress code...especially if it isnt yours...WHY ARE YOU WORRIED? 2. The reason why Hampton has a dress code and a curfew, for that matter, is because its almost EASY for some people to get into college. Many of you know that you have that girl from high school that wont really that smart on the outside, that got into college... I KNOW MANY!! There are also sooo many females and males who come from an enviorment that dont have too many people that make it out... the dress code/curfew is set up so that those people learn a sense of discipline so that as they grow they learn how to act as an adult in a perfessional setting. I can remember my first week here seeing so many females looking like "fresh meat"... thats who the dress code/ curfews are for. As far as hats in the building is concerned, that is a rule that dates WAY back..matter of fact I know some of yalls grandpas and grandmas have told yall that GENTLEMEN do not wear hats in the building. Doo-rags however..... come on. Thats just a given.... But also, thats sometimes on a case to case bases. Being that I am a music major, a lot of my teachers really dont mind or notice a hat or a scarf... doo rags yea. Shoot.. I have come to class many times wearing my PJ's. Alot of teachers are more worried about the material of the class rather than what you are wearing. Unless its a MBA major.. I heard they dont play. and Sporting events really dont count considering they are open to the public... I dont think McMorris is going to go up to some random white guy and ask him to remove his hat.... it just doesnt happen. In conclusion.... dont read too far into the dress code.

Yeah Jay-Z did say change clothes, And Kanye West said that "you **** wear suits cause you can't dress no mo'".
Kanye DID say that, but look at how Kanye dresses. His style does not at all violate the Hampton dress code. Think about it... Anyway, Hampton University has a dress code...thats not going anywhere anytime soon. If you can't deal with it, there are thousands of other universities to choose from.

^^^what do you mean there are other universities to choose from? I never said that I ever considered transfering to Hampton. Yeah Kanye doesn't violate the dress code, but the fact is, he dresses how he wants, not how someone tells him to. Give it up, it's not going to work, you're not going to convince me that having a dress code is ok. I'm done Game Over!!!!
