If I study for tests, why the hell do I keep failing them? Is there a certain way you're supposed to study?

Hmmm that's a tough one. It depends on the subject in some cases. Your note taking in others. I'd say its due to one of three things: 1) Learning Disability 2) Test Anxiety 3) Study Habits and/or methods By virtue of the fact that you've made it to college I'd say it's safe to say that reasons one and two can be ruled out. The third reason more than likely is the main reason because study habits developed in high school may not transfer easily into a college situation. Professors have often said that for each hour of class instruction a student should have three hours worth of studying to do. I don't buy it but that's simply the rationale that I've heard used before. In order to study effectively you have to find what part of the day is best for you to focus. It will take sacrifice and dedication. I suggest that you focus on the classes giving you the greatest deal of difficulty and: 1) Read the entire chapter prior to it's discussion in class. 2) Jot down any and all unfamiliar terms and find the definitions for each one. 3) If the chapter has review questions at the end, do those. 4) Re-read the chapter. 5) Focus and take diligent notes in class. 6) Participate actively in class discussions. 7) After class read and re-write your notes the very same day. If this is not what you were doing for the Fall Semester, try the above steps in the Spring. If you've done this, all of it, then provide me with some further information either here or in PM. Good Luck in the Spring. I hope that answered your question. If you have any follow up questions please let me know.

There are two prevailing schools of thought on this. 1) The conservatists say just enough to suit his purpose. 2) The realists say til either: a. his teeth fall out or b. he gets tired I hope that answered your question. If you have any follow up questions please let me know.
