They say that sometimes the smallest thing can be of the greatest impact. A smile to a passing neighbor could brighten their day, a hug to a family member could remind them how much you love them. It doesn't always matter how much you have of something but how good that something is. Of course in a war or fight, they might also say that without large numbers what more can you create than a quick ending. Well, even that end can be something great- does it not create a legacy for people to remember for years later?The ant is supposedly one of the smaller insects of our world. Well if that's so, then how come they seem so much bigger when they invade our kitchen during the rainy season? Maybe its because we love to exagerate a story, or maybe it is because there are so many of them that we just take in the whole picture as though the ants were larger than they really are.Did you know that ants can carry about ten times there own size? Ants are found to be capable of lifting an object weighing five times as much as their own weight; it was also shown that an ant is able to carry an object weighing up to twenty five times as much as its own body by dragging it along the ground to the nest. Can you imagine what a whole colony can do together for each other as compared to what one ant can do for itself?Now I'm sure you're wondering why on Earth am I writing about ants, and the reason is simply this: each person can be represented as a single ant- capable of carrying or doing more than others expect them to be able to. In the United States, African Americans and Hispanics are considered to be one of the largest minority groups of our country. However, there is not only conflict between majority and minority groups, but also between these two minority groups. While some people might look at this situation as being a disagreement in backgrounds, traditions, or possible religious issues, it can also be a possibility that these two groups might very well be fighting over the fact that they both want the same thing and are afraid that they both cannot have it.But imagine these two minority groups as being one combined minority group? Imagine how much larger the group would look and how much more of an impact they could make. African Americans together are considered one ant while Hispanics are another. African Americans have come along way over the centuries- from coming out of slavery to creating their own rights within the United States. Hispanics have also managed to create amongst themselves a comfortable living style and helped in creating the entrepunerial aspirations and acheivements.Together they can accomlish more. Yes, each group worked and carried their own wieght if not more. But together they can make a greater impact in not only the business workers world but also within the political, cultural, communication, and community issues. Whether or not we realize it, no matter how different we are to each neighbor, we all live in the same community. Minority groups have a word in the decisions of what happens within a community because it affects them just as much as it does anybody else. A community is not about what area you live or one what block your house is on. If the city wants to do something its not gonna be just for a certain area but for the whole city. If both minorities live in the same city but differenty parts, what sense does it make to fight over who gets what, when together they can get one suggested idea applied to both communities and the whole city.This ability to speak out and express opinions will also help create a chance at breaking the communication barriers that exist between minority and majority groups. It is important that both minority groups come together to create a majority group. When two different voices demanding the same thing combine into one, it creates an even louder voice that will not only be heard in that community but possibly across the nation. Or even when both voices are different, explanations and discussions will help create understanding of differences and a chance at creating a compromise.If each ant in a colony can carry an item five to twenty five times its weight, imagine what a large group on minority people and leaders can do- an ant colony can carry all the leaves of a tree, while together the people can move anything.Together, the minority can move mountains.
