It depends on what your major is. Each school (School of Business, School of Communications, etc.) have their own requirements for transfers.

Well I entered Howard University as a transfer student in the fall of 2007. I'm a Computer Science major and my college requires at least a 2.5 gpa I believe to transfer. But I know from talking to admissions that they let less transfers in then they let in first time students in college in. Howard is a selective school they want the best of the best students to attend their school. The year I attended Howard about 40,000 student applied for the fall 2007 term( I could be wrong it could be a little less or more, but you get my drift) and admissions only let about 2,000 students in(same thing here). Applying early is always a good thing. I applied in October of 2007 and my grades were sent from college in December and I got my acceptance packet in the mail in January. So I received everything pretty quick as compared to some other students. Your essay has to be on point as well. That's one of the most important things next to your grades and extra curricular activities. Howard wants a well rounded student that excels in academics and helps out the community by giving back. If you have anymore questions just ask on here or e-mail me at Krisel1@sbcglobal.net Hope this all helps...

I applied and got in right away. I had a 3.8 my freshman semester, made the President's List because of it, held down a job, and volunteered at the Red Cross occasionally. I didn't volunteer as much back then as I do now, but my grades stayed high, even though they dropped to a 3.4 in the spring semester. I defferred my admission to January so I'll be at Howard then. Just have confidence in your abilities, and play up your strengths. I'm a good writer, so I used the essay to my advantage. Believe, manifest. Damn, I sound like a Deepak Chopra book, lol. Just don't sweat it. I was so busy applying to the Ivy Leagues that Howard was last on my list. I ended up chucking the other applications into the garbage and not even sending them in. Just felt like it was the right decision.

Howard isn't even that selective. they let in plenty of mediocre students who have connections but not necessarily good grades. nevertheless, the academics are top-of-the line. wonderful school, but you need to get aquainted with the tsa immediately after coming here (transfer student assoc.) Things will be extremely difficult for you because of all the red tape, but it won't last past the second month if you get involved with us because we help each other out.

So, did you just start at Howard thus January?? And were you at your previous school for a whole year or just for last semester?? If you don't mind me asking what were your reasons for transfering?? Also what exactly do you mean by red tape transfer students have to go through and are you happy with your decision to transfer?? One last thing - do you know if there are scholarships available to transfer students??I know I have a lot of questions but any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
