Accelerating the shake-up of President Bush's inner circle in advance of his second term, the White House announced Monday that Secretary of State Colin Powell and three other Cabinet members had submitted their resignations.
"I believe that now that the election is over, the time has come for me to step down as secretary of state and return to private life," Powell said in a resignation letter released by the White House.
At a brief news conference, Powell said he would stay "a month or two" until a successor is confirmed by Congress.
Powell, who often butted heads with fellow members of Bush’s foreign policy team, also said he never intended to serve beyond a first term.
“We came to the mutual agreement that it would be appropriate for me to leave at this time,” he said. Powell also dismissed reports that he had offered to stay longer.
Why is this not a surprise? However, I’m almost scared to think of who Bush might replace all these people with. What do yall think?
This is crazy. I just saw on CNN that Colin Powell has resigned. My goodness....I really do wonder what in the world is going on to make these people resign left and right. I guess only time will tell.

you guys are falling for the media's spin that this is like some whole big shake up... that everyone's abandoning ship...bush has had 6 cabinet members resign, clinton had 7 cabinet members resign...this is NORMAL!...
condee will probably replace him...she's the cabinet member that's closest to bush...
