that professional sports players get paid not only more than teachers (elementary through high school and most, if not all, college professors), but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than teachers?????
think it's fair that doctors, lawyers, etc. etc. get paid way more than teachers as well?????
when someone (i think a teacher) mentioned to me a few years ago how absolutely ludicrous it is that teachers get paid much less than people of these other professions, when the teacher is the one who taught them everything they KNOW about that profession in the FIRST place....i was like hmmmmmm...that is SO true...
but what do ya'll think?
Man, SHYT!!! I had lengthy post that just got deleted because of this funky **** server so I'm just gonna post my main points
Good job Mila, you held it down for the doctors  ..lol
No doctors are not overpaid
*they go to school at least 8-9 yrs post high school, pay a buttload of money, work, and time just to get to medical school to BECOME a doctor (this includes the MCAT preparation, the application process, medical school tuition, etc.) and they devote their lives to the welfare of others which is a 24/7 job
*doctors are NOT rich so if you wanna become rich, don't be a doctor
*as soon as you get MD behind your name doesn't mean your gonna be rolling in dough cuz all doctors don't get paid the same (the people making 200,000+ are surgeons and specialists)
*malpractice insurance, enough said
Yes teachers are underpaid
*they have to put up with too much and work too hard for the wages that they earn (this is only for the GOOD teachers out there)
....but they shouldn't be paid the same wages of a doctor, lawyer or pharmacist (which also hit 6 figs)
*you have to realize that in the US we get paid by our level of "education" (with the exception of entertainers, including athletes which I will not comment on cuz we KNOW those mofos are overpaid)...why do you think some people go to graduate school?
*how many teachers (not to be confused with professors) do you know with a Ph.D? let me know cuz I darn sure don't know any
*would you want someone with the same BA as you getting paid 6 figs (yeah, sounds a little selfish but oh well)
my whole thing is....it seems that teachers would receive at LEAST as much as doctors, if not, MORE....being that if it weren't for TEACHERS...the doctors wouldn't even know what they know or be the best at what they do, to begin with!
they should at LEAST make MUCH more than they do...they REALLY get ripped off...considering THEIR crucial role in the functioning of society...
Especially when all they are teaching is ABC's and 123's....
Do u not know how hard it is to teach ABC's and 123's? I did student teaching, I know that most students don't grasp ABC's and 123's very quickly. So we as teachers have to work very hard in that subject of ABC/123 very hard. And that is just the tip of the iceberg of what we have to teach. U still have georgraphy, putting sentences together, etc. And what they learn at this early age, normally makes or break them. If they can't read or know their numbers at an early age, then there is a good chance they will not really learn them in life. What students learn in elementary school is the foundation. W/o knowing ABC's, no reading. W/o knowing 123's, they will not be able to grasp algebra, geometry, etc when they get to middle and high school. Lets not just say "all they are learning is ABC's and 123's"
this is sad..my passion is teaching..thats what i go to school for and thats what i plan on doing the rest of my life...grant it..they dont get paid a lot ..but there are a lot more rewards to teaching then money...i picture it like this..if teachers started making maaaad money...there would be more and more people getting into the field trying to teach ..and in the long run...that would harm our kids..imagine your kid being taught by a teacher whose just in it for the money..no real passion to teach..doing it just because..that would be kind of messed up!...i think they should get paid enough to be able to make a LIVING and not just a level up from poverty!
I gotta agree with the fact that teachers are underpaid, extreeemely underpaid at that. My mom is a high school teacher and I see all the ****my mom has to deal with. Teaching is more than just a 8-3:15 job. You gotta create lesson plans, correct hw, tutor, all that. Most teachers, especially good ones, do more than "just teach"; they're counselors and mentors and sometimes even parental figures to their students. I know unless teaching was my absolutely passion I wouldn't do it, because the pay doesn't fit their job description. And there's no doubt in my mind that athletes and entertainers are terribly overpaid. If athletes and entertainers all disappeared the only thing we'd be is a little bored, if the same happened to teachers we'd all be lost. Who's job is truly more important?

I definitely dont think docters and lawyers are overpaid...ESPECIALLY doctors. Hell, they go thru so many years of schooling and usually aint done by the time they about 30. And PLUS, they are in the business of SAVING LIVES...that deserves a HUGE salary in my opinion. The average STARTING salary for most doctors is around $200,000 a year, and it obviously increases with their years of experience...but overall I think thats fair. They have spent so much of their money in trying to learn how to save lives, I think its only right that they receive 6 figure salaries and plus...
I dont totally agree on tha doctor thing... yea some doctors save lives but they dont all save lives. However yes they do help with the functioning of society. I just dont agree that someone shos a podiatrist should make as much as someone whos an oncologist. But I think surgeons get paid wat they deserve cuz thats a lot of long hrs and hard work.
I do agree that athletes get paid WAY too much. I dont think someone who plays ball for a living should be makin millions of dollars. I find that a lot of those major athletes become more obsessed with tha fame and fortune that they become less interested in the game.
For sure teachers are underpaid, 30k startin salary is not a good livin. And I can tell u one thing that I will always remember my greatest teachers but nobody really remebers athlethes unless they were superstars and I sure as heck dont remember my doctors. If it wasnt for some of my teachers I probably wouldnt even be where I am today. I think teachers should get much more credit than they get b/c they are helping to shape lives.
hell naw i dont think its fair.my moms is a teacher and jus what she goes through wit them kids is ridiculus.especially since she teaches at the infamous northern hs (for all u detroit people).i mean teachers are the ones who prepare the youth to go out into the world and get their basic knowledge.if there is no one to teach the kids then this society would be even wilder than it is now.
According to economics, it's fair, because people are willing to pay millions of dollars to see games, advertise, and purchase products. People, unfortunately, are not usually willing to spend the same on being educated.
Whether this is ethical or not is another story entirely. Holla!

Fukk all that...is it really necessary for you to roll your eyes at me cause you disagree with me....I will never understand people...smh
Aww, I rolled my eyes, poor Jamila. U want me to edit it and take them down or something? What do I need to do for u to not be mad at me? Huh?
lol...i have yet 2 finish reading ALL of the responses after this 1, but i can SORT of see it from Jimmie's point of view, now that he puts it like that....
but AT THE SAME TIME....
the professional athletes STILL shouldn't be making AS MUCH as they do...it is riDICulous...
Lebron James once upon a time got a $99 mil contract from i think it wuz Nike...to promote their shoez....WTF?!
WHAT does he need w/ all of that money IN ADDITION TO what he ALREADY gets from the NBA PLUS ALL OF HIS OTHER ENDORSEMENTS?!?!?!
that is the most ABSURD thing EVER....
as far as what they bring in...yeah, i do agree with that to a certain extent...and i guess, in that light, that's the most LOGICAL explanation as to why they make so much, in comparison to other professions....but at the same time...like someone already mentioned....what effect does an NBA, NFL, or whateva player have on society, like a teacher does? esPECially seeing as how most of these athletes don't even like to be considered as role models....they jus' tryna ball, make their buck & bounce...
i comPLETEly understand the salaries of doctors, as i have already mentioned....but i still say pro athletes do not deserve ALL that they make...particularly in comparison to what little teachers make...
& also as far as what they bring in....most actors don't even get paid NEARLY as much as some NBA players & they bring in a significant amount AND some have even put in many MANY years (even DECADES) of hard word & energy into their total amount of accomplishments....
& even though i wouldn't want this particular one to get a whole lot more ANYway...the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES doesn't even make NEARLY as much as these athletes...
of course, he's apart of a wealthy family, so it doesn't really matter...but i'm shootin' at the principle of the situation....
leader of a country, making humongous decisions on a regular basis about the well-being of that country and its people....gaining a million extra grey hairs & wrinkles between when they 1st step into office and they time they step out, in response to all of the nonstop stress faced in the position...24/7-365....
compared to.....someone who runs back and forth on a court all day everyday....24/7-365...
just doesn't make too much sense....
