Hey everyone. Since we're on the subject of Hampton University, I have a question for ya'll. I've narrowed my choice for school down to two colleges: Hampton and Xavier U. in New Oreleans. So my question is this, why should I choose Hampton? I want to major in Biology/Pre-Med and i know that both schools have a great Biology program. I just want to hear what people have to say. Thanks

First off, I am a freshman but I have seen and observed alot my first month here...I know a few people who have left here ALREADY because they hated it...but HU is not for everyone. I must tell u, COME VISIT...u might like the school, u might not...but come on a regular day, not high school day or a special event...how it is then is not how it is on a normal day. This school is all about preparing you for the real world...so yes some rules here may initially seem stupid but it's all about how things really are in the real world. People are real cool here, although some of them come off as snobbish...but thaz everywhere. It can be fun on the weekends, but Sunday through Thursday it **** here, i aint even gon lie. But then again, u aint got no choice but to focus on ur grades (wait, lemme take that back...some people don't study and get kicked out anyway) and from what I heard, Xavier is more strict on some of the rules than we are, and I didnt think that was possible...but u GOTTA VISIT BOTH SCHOOLS if u already haven't...good luck wit everything...if u have any questions hit me up on AIM...I aint got no life and I'm constantly online...lol

The dress code here isn't that bad. The reason I heard that it was enforced so strictly is because 1) Hampton University is trying to foster a professional atmosphere and 2) Since Hampton receives a lot of money from outside sources, when these people come visit the campus, they don't want to see the students dressed any kind of way. I mean I see people around here get away with so much, but I did hear that they were changing the dress code. And to whoever came with that information between Hampton and Howard please know that Hampton receives the largest endowment among all HBCUs. And lastly Hampton is a private school so I don't believe they receive any kind of federal money...I am not sure about that part but I am sure about the whole endowment thing.

I HAVE HEARD THAT BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY MAJORS AT HAMPTON ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH THAT DEPARTMENT THAN ANY OTHER. I DONT KNOW HOW TRUE THAT IS SO PLEASE DON'T HOLD ME TO IT. ME PERSONALLY, I'M STILL NOT DOWN WITH THE DRESS CODE OR THE CURFEW (EVEN THOUGH THERE IS REALLY NO WHERE TO GO ANYWAY) HAMPTON HAS MANY ADVANTAGES AS WELL AS DISADVANTAGES. I'M NOT EVEN GONNA LIE TO YOU... I HATED HERE AT FIRST BUT NOW I AM REALLY STARTING TO FEEL AT HOME. IT JUST TAKES GETTING USED TO THE WAY THINGS WORK AROUND HERE.

Man, the dress code is not that serious. I wear wifebeaters all the time (I wore one Tuesday with some red suspenders and black pants 8) ) It all depends on how you wear it. If you carry yourself wrong, then people will look at you like you're wrong. For instance, I am typing this in a blue spaghetti strap top and slacks and closed-toe shoes. Of course the top is "inappropriate", but I carry myself like a professional young woman, so everybody just smiles at me and goes on about their business. Oh yeah, and after I get out of cheerleading practice, I don't put back on my shirt. I just walk around with a sports bra and biker shorts. I be hot, shoot me.

lol U are speakin tha truth...but I was told that some girl was out by 5 cause she violated dress code...got caught by tha dean of women wearing inappropriate attire...so it depends on who (and if someone) catches you...as long as u cover up when administration is around, u cool...

^^^Not trying to be rude or anything, but why concern yourself with HU's dress code when you go to A&T? Not to mention that it has been answered (quite nicely, may I add) on page 5.........and 4, and 3... :?

Thank you. People always have so much to say about our dress code...but it really isn't as bad as it seems. I mean HU has a list of things they say you can't do, but people do it anyways. I think because of the term 'dress code' people get all iffy, but when you read it...it's like duhhh. It's not bad at all.

It's really simple. So everyone can stop asking me, There are no uniforms at Hampton. And no, you don't have to wear a suit every day. Guys can't wear hats indoors, or wife beaters or du rags outdoors. Girls can't wear anything outrageously revealing. If you go to one of the 3 formal programs per year, you have to dress up. That's it. Nothing to stress over. Holla!
