We Must Become One! Posted on 03-25-2007

There has been racism between all races all through the ages. Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Arabic, you name it. We talk about our differences in looks. We talk about our differences in culture. We talk about our differences in the way we live our day to day lives. Why? Someday we will take time out to look back on our lives and see what we've become. Most of us will not like ourselves. We've lied to get our promotions, we've put our best friends down so that we can rise to the top, we've kept valuable information from someone and caused them to lose their jobs. The funny thing about this is that we call it "working hard to get where I am today". Do we actually work hard or do we step on toes to move up? We like to say that the white man made it difficult for us. We like to say that the white man is the one that said if we did not do it we would be fired.. We like to say that it is the white man that keeps us from moving forward. We blame others for our mistakes and pour our frustrations out on them. One way we do this is by using racial slurrs and smirks. I have to say, if I want to move forward, I either have to do it alone, or I can get help from my friends, my co-workers, or my family. How is that possible if we can not get along with what the bible calls "our neighbors"? If we want a black president, we have to vote. If we want our voices heard, we have to speak up. If we want to be noticed for the contents of our character and not the color of our skin, show yourself capable. If you don't want to be labeled as a ****, don't dress like it. If you haven't noticed, it takes hard work, dedication, and faith to get the things you desire. Why haven't we come together? It only takes one person to spread a rumor, but a group of people can make that rumor known. WE MUST BECOME ONE! We say we want to live rich like the white people. We say we want a big house and big cars. We even have brilliant ideas that can probably heal the world of its devistation! Can it be heard with only one voice? Yes, but it can a thunderous roar if a group of people come together to project a point. We can get out of the ghetto. Our sons can be on the school basketball team instead of running with his boys in the hood. Our daughters can become professors instead of street walkers. We can be homeboys and buddies in stead of Vato, Bloods and Crips. We must first make our presence known, our voices heard, WE MUST COME TOGETHER!!! That's the only solution to the problem. Stop calling Hispanics wet-backs. Stop calling African-Americans monkeys. Start calling each other neighbors and work together. Life would be a lot easier if we WORKED TOGETHER. It seems like every person in the world thinks that because we are a certain skin color, we will only do things one way. We feel like we are so different all because of the shade of our skin color. We have forgotten that we share the same differences. Everyone has a family member on ****. Everyone has a family member that begs for money. Everyone has a family member with a deep dark secret. Everyone has the same God in heaven. The only differences are looks and languages. Even in the bible, people were against each other, lying and doing each other wrongly. For this reason, our heavenly father came up with different languages. He felt that if we couldn't speak the same language, then we wouldn't be able to hurt each other, at least through tongue. I definitely wouldn't be able to hate you if you called me a bad name and can not understand what it was. Lets get over it people. That's how we handle the situation. That's how we come together. If we let go of our problems and work on getting to the solutions together, that eliminates the hatred between blacks and hispanics. That elimiates all the time we have taken to make a problem. YOU have to do it. Once we've done that, we can work on what's important. Connecting with our families, being successful in our careers, and most importantly our childrens' education. We have to help our young people's minds to grow. When I say "WE" I don't mean just family and friends. I mean our country, our communities, our schools. We know how difficult it is to grow up in a bad community. It's difficult to study when you have gang members hanging outside your house, police sirens going off constantly, and having fights whenever you go to school to keep people from talking about you for not having expensive clothes. We are even alike when it comes down to the communities that we live in. Everybody knows what part of our town is called the "ghetto". We know when someone is well off and lives in a nice home and drives a nice car because of their good job. This is yet another similarity. I feel you are my brothers and sisters of the same father, but a different mother. I feel that if we take the time to talk and connect with each other, you will agree. Where is the best place to see a variety of races under one roof where you can connect and be yourself? Where you can grow and prove yourself? Where you can be who you want to be? A place other than church. It is in our schools. We need all the help we can get. Our Historically Black College and Universities can help by continuing to provide for their people because it is needed. A few ways to go about it would be by giving out more scholarships, giving out more grants, maybe having a bigger variety of internships and work-study programs to help us gain more knowledge in our field of interest. This can also help our young people decide what to do about their careers before they end up in another **** end job. We can become more successful in our workplace if we have the practice, the drive, and the joy of working where we actually worked hard to get to. Where our degrees are of use. Not being able to pay for college can stop anyone from following their dreams. They'd rather not follow their dream and have a little money to care for their family, than to starve their family while getting an education. Do we need our schools? Yes. We need them badly. If our schools want their communities to grow and have their children become smarter, brighter people with brighter futures, we will need their continued help and support. WE NEED UNITY!
