Note: I am trying to put this essay in the "Hill Motor Corporation Power of Community Scholarship" thread but I'm unable to do so because of technical reasons. I have come to this website for three weeks and I can only access this Forum. Please if you can, enter my essay into the proper place. I have emailed and sought help to NO prevail. I at least wanted to be considered for the scholarship so I decided to post it her, which is in the incorrect place. Sorry for any inconvenience this mishap may cause your company/industry!!!!!!! It is important for Black Americans to rebuild a sense of community that transcends socio-economic boundaries in order to keep our roots in tact. Because of unlimited resources, there is no reason for any Black American to remain in an unproductive situation. Education, hard work, and strong determination only will enhance growth for us. Yes, the desire for self-betterment is undeniable. Socio-economic growth takes time, but in the long run many Black Americans will benefit and our hertiage will be preserved. Due to the excessive Black American entertainment through movies, songs, and TV shows, we have no excuses to hinder the "productive" ones from "giving back." We, as a Black race, need to remember that we are mandated to help those in need. When we know better, then we should definitely do better. Black Americans need to implement more educational programs in our communities to help educate our own to connect the many fragmentations we have allowed to divide our race. We have those who are more wealthy than others, or those who have more prestigious professions that "place themselves" above the Black Americans' standards. They desire to be a different race, thus forgetting their origins and the many hardships that their ancestors endeavored so they could have better lives. As Black Americans, if we share our trials and triumpts with our younger generations, then we can begin connecting the "old with the new" and therefore, being a cease to the division of our race. A growing and thriving community can be observed through various land developments. The city environment increases with the addition of stores and recreational facilities. Other progressions might be new or improved schools, paved roads, and housing developments. Growth in population also would be a clear sign of advancement in an area that is thriving. Online social networking platforms such as HBCU Connect, Facebook, and MySpace can best serve us as Black Americans if used effectively for educating, sharing ideas, and connecting the gaps. I feel that through these channels, we can become more knowledgeable thus in return aiding Black Americans to re-build socio-economic boundaries, connect fragmentations, and achieve growth in all areas of our community. As a committed Black American woman, I am determined to make higher standards a reality for my race. My mission is to encourage and improve education through positive and visionary methods. I will become not only a better teacher but also an important asset to my people, thus "giving back" as I am mandated and expected to , as much as possible. Hopefully, I will make life for Black Americans a little brighter for the next generation.
