The issue of race has been a battle for superiority since I can remember being put down because of the color of my skin or my economical status. However, I do not agree with the labelling this country and the world has made upon the different races simply because to me, everyone is human. The labelling of "Hispanics" and African Americans in themselves are simply terms to separate people. The latter is not to say the inherent cultures of the world are irrelevant; but more to emphasize the importance of personal culture and not labels based on race.
Additionally, the fact of being a minority and the illusion of believing one is "below" any other person is unfortunate. A minority is labeled as such because of its influence in numbers within the economic and political structures of a country. With such in mind, consider the following: the peoples of the Latino and Black cultures have been historically imposed limits not only from outside sources but within their own communities. In order to eradicate false borders and breach limitations they must unite and form a beneficial relationship to evolve as human beings and advance in equality.
When I say beneficial relationship I refer to a relationship which is not harmful and does not attack or martyr the past of each culture. Too often I have heard how blacks and latinos try to "out-do" one another by attempting to measure the suffering of their ancestors. If a person is to overcome limitations and truly wishes to devise a way to help their own community it must be from a neutral, efficient, and beneficial standpoint. People of both cultures have to develop a sense of responsibility and take a stand guided by the history learned. In other words, they must learn from their ancestors' suffering, understand why it happened, remember it and pay tribute to it as such, but also soar above the mentality of defeatism. I believe firmly in the significance of evolution for the above-mentioned cultures, not only because I belong to one of them but because evolution is not only a physical and scientifically generated truth; but an inner search for the bettering of one's self.
