The unity of all races are important, but in the US it is especially important for African American and Hispanics to unite because we are the minority. Our voices are rarely heard and seem to make any change. We’ve done protest, marches, parades but nothing seems to change. The same reason why there hasn’t been an African American or Hispanic president, society doesn’t feel that we are smart enough or what ever the case may be to run for president. It’s not that they are right, but no one is taking the stand of telling them they are wrong. If we all came and worked together it would be a lot more that we can accomplish. Even though we might be two totally different races, we both have overcome over time and life has always been a struggle. The histories of our grandparents and great grandparents are very deep. The majority of our lives, everyone has been rooting against us and telling us what we are not capable of. We would be able to do great works if we were to come together and fight as one.
I strongly feel that music, tradition and society as a whole as tricked us into believing that we are not capable as coming together as one. Our minds have been programmed to believe or feel the way we feel. Especially African Americans, we are so divided for no reason at all, you would think that all that we have been through, we’d be closer than ever and nothing could divide us. We promote music that talks down to women and has no respect for the law and no one is doing anything about it.
Things like My Space could be used to reach African Americans and Hispanics and tell them the importance of coming together. It would be a great tool because many people of all different types of races and ages have access to My Space and many people are on there regularly.
Black colleges and universities should continue doing what they are doing and support African Americans. They need all the help they can get because they aren’t getting much of it anywhere else. It is a great thing that they do, and they give people who may have never had a chance to go to college a chance to. Many African Americans can not afford sending their children off to school, but now there are scholarships making it so they can. Many Hispanics are the first to even finish high school in their family, let alone go to college. So maybe the black colleges should reach out to Hispanics and give them the same opportunities that the others have.
So when it comes down to it, it is really us who keep our selves from being heard. We could do a little bit more to stand out and change things. We have to stay strong and let everyone no we mean business and aren’t letting anyone or anything hold us back.
