Although different in ethnicity, both the African American and the Hispanics are more alike than you may think. The mirror reflection of what they have endured is quite frightening. The parallel similarity of both minority groups is very visible to the open minded eye. Political regcontion has been hard to come by. The cultural make up of both groups are very rich and deep in pride. Communication is unique as both groups communicate with there own ancestral language and signs that has been passed down over the generations. The community issues are vast, ranging from lack of education to old generation fables that have continued to slow the growth of the present generation. Working together as one will allow us to bring power in numbers, this way we would be a large group bring attention to matters that are important to both groups. Over the years we have seen that neither group has been able to do much because we haven’t been able to gather enough power to motivate and promote the issues that concerns both groups. Look at the immigration rallies that are going on today, the Hispanics have been able to gather many to protest for an immigration bill. Have they been getting attention? Yes. Then why shouldn’t that serve as an example as to a glimpse of what could be done if both groups work together. By uniting as a whole we not only form a large group, but we bring an innovated attitude with a desire to succeed. The African American and Hispanic communities need to stop looking at themselves as rivals, but as teammates. What has either group achieved with fighting with the other? Nothing. That is exactly the problem; we have achieved nothing by fighting. If we worked together then maybe we would be heard and more attention would be given to the issues we stand for. One of the most important things that would help would be a clear and open line of communication. This would greatly enhance the understanding between the groups. As it will be discovery of what both groups have endured. From the harsh and unfair treatments received in both their native land and the United States. By actually talking we could see that we are similar in many ways and should unite as one to solve some issues. With both group coming together, they can form a strong alliance that would make for a strong power broker in the political and social community. Historically Black College & Universities needs to continue to lending support for the African American and Hispanic students as this journey to unity is a long way from completion. They need to remember and understand the past will only enhance and improve the future of our unity. The past generation experience should never again rear its ****, unfair, unjust evil head again. This can be accomplished by providing and encouraging education. The students are the future. With an education we as students can go places, do things, and be able to improve our standard of living. That is why many immigrants come here because this is the land of opportunity. Dreams can come true here in the U.S. This idea should be promoting with the students, motivate them and support them financially. By doing these simple things we could give back to the community and promote a sense of pride, where others may follow the path to the next level.
