African American & Hispanic Unity" Essay Contest Over the ages there have been many different societies or cultures to commune over this planet, for them all to flourish several things had to happen the most important they had to work with others to better not only their lives but the livelihood of all mankind. So a question like “Why should African Americans and Hispanics in the United States work together as minorities to address political, cultural, communication, and community issues”, can be answered in many different ways. The most important and lastly direction of the answer lies within the history, present position and the future of these two races. Minorities in the United States together become the majority and while most of the minority races have not realized this important fact other Americans (whites, or the majority) have and since then began to operate according to this reality. If the minority races like African Americans and Hispanic American worked together to build a stronger front (voice) their power would be respected and things would operate in their favor. Rejecting the power in numbers only hinders the ability of that person or group to advance in life. African Americans and Hispanic Americas are two groups that are viewed within business as one all the time. Advertisements are focused on these groups and money is made regardless if they realize they have been placed together or not. Therefore, for them to join together as one and fight for better voices within the political, cultural or community sectors of life would be only the right choice for them to make not for themselves alone but for the betterment of the country. There are a number of ways for African American and Hispanic Americans to work together. Organizations can improve their positions in America, for one due to the need of their opinion one issue that is facing Hispanic Americans, African Americans and the country now, that of the immigration reform that is taking place. All parties need to have a voice in the decision as to how the issue is solved so that all parties will benefit not just one. Channels of communication such as media can bring them together as we have seen done in the past with award shows, magazines, music and several other areas of life that we all share together. Most importantly building on common ground, things like employment, community restructure (gentrification) and voting rights. These things need to be attended to for both races to increase their power within the country. In addition education is always a great way to go when bridging the gap of any two groups. Historically Black Colleges and Universities have the opportunity to do just that. In recent years more minority scholarships have been mandated at HBCUs, one question that has arose is who is seen as minorities, whites or other minority groups. Hispanic Americans should be able to attend more HBCUs on this premise. African Americans and Hispanic Americans are said to be two of the undereducated groups in America (mainly their men), so working against this issue together would build for a better future not only for these two races but also for America with better employees to advance the American economy. The unification of African Americans and Hispanic Americans is vital to the growth of not only the two races, or the communities in which they live but for the improvement of America and accentually the world in general. The golden rule known as the power in numbers still is alive and kicking today and will do so for many years to come.
