African Americans and Hispanics in the United States should work together as minorities to address political, cultural, communication and community issues because if we don’t help ourselves, no one will. As an African American, I can see the destruction and demise that we are slowly approaching. Lets face it, this is a white mans world and it isn’t designed for African Americans people or Hispanics to survive. Caucasians look at Hispanics just as they look at African Americans. They think they are all criminals out making babies and living on welfare. But we are not. We all have been living in this society and we are not trying to make it together, and therefore we are suffering as a whole. Whether the color of your skin is as black as night or if it just looks as if it were barely kissed by the sun, white people still look at you as a ******. And that’s sad, but that’s apart of this world that we live in. A lot can be done to strengthen the relationship with Hispanics and African Americans. First of all, we have to stop looking at each other and turning our noses down at one another, the white man is already doing that. We have to learn to work together as equals and realize that we have to make it together or we won’t make it at all. I know that is kind of harsh, but its reality. And until we have enough confidence to stand up for what’s right and speak our minds, we will continue to struggle as a nation. I can’t sit around and hope someone will give me a better job with better opportunities and not look down upon me because of my complexion. I would like for someone to see the potential I have as a strong gifted woman. Not an African American woman, but an intelligent woman who just happens to be African American. That’s the kind of world we should live in, but unfortunately, it’s not my world and it sure isn’t a perfect world. To strengthen our relationship, we need to be more involved in activities that are geared towards those two particular races. And if there aren’t any out there, then we need to start having them throughout our communities. Both populations are growing rapidly and I think it’s time that both cultures interact more with each other. People from other countries like Japan come to America and launch million dollar companies, and that’s only because they choose to work together as a team. I think in order for African Americans and Hispanics to achieve success, colleges and universities need to step up. They need to offer more scholarships and even start a Hispanic and African American mixer. Maybe not call it that because other cultures my be offended, but something that helps Hispanics and African Americans get to know one another and be more comfortable around each other. I think that colleges should start some type of program that required you to make a buddy outside of your race. With that buddy, you must learn as much about their culture as possible and you must remain in contact with that buddy for the remaining time you are in college. This is a great way to network, gain power and have your voice heard. I think colleges should really support the growth of both the Hispanic population as well as the African American population by offering discounted summer programs and more scholarships. I can’t stress that enough. And we as African Americans and Hispanics need to take advantage of what is being offered to us. If we step up together, it will be harder for anyone to knock us down.
