Unity is a powerful phenomenon that describes the collaborative efforts of being one or being on the same page and having the same goals. In a nation where unity is important in order to function as a society, African-Americans and Hispanics in the United States seem to be divided on many issues. As a result, it has evolved into constant **** between the two groups and has even created division between Black and Hispanic leaders in the sense where neither group is willing to acknowledge each others value toward the society and how important it is that they collectively work together to accomplish goals of minority economic advancement and political leverage on the pluralistic American society. This is why I think that there should be more educational funding that embraces minority awareness and equal acknowledgment of Black and Hispanic groups. This will show more value to them as humans and as important members of the American society. Also, I think that educational institutions that have associations that are Black or Hispanic based need to put more emphasis on the importance of working together collectively as a universal minority coalition. By doing this, it will combat many of the negative stereotypes and stigmas that continue to plague Blacks and Hispanics and ultimately pit them against each other.Because education is one of the most powerful tools in combating many of the problems in society, it is very important that educational institutions of higher learning work to strengthen the relationship between African-Americans and Hispanics. To achieve this, fraternities and sororities that are African-American and Hispanic based should incorporate the importance of working together with their fellow minority based associations in an effort to promote a strong unity within the minority community on campuses across the nation. Each association should began valuing each others worth and contribution toward society whether it be through community service, networking, political or economic achievement within society. By acknowledging each other’s worth and valuing their participation through service and other activities, African-Americans and Hispanics will begin to embrace each other with more of an awareness and education about the how important it is for them as a unit to work together in order to get political issues on a macro-scale accomplished. An example that would restore African-American and Hispanic relations is the media promotions of each others historical achievements. On BET, which is labeled Black Entertainment Television, the founder had the intentions of promoting entertainment for the Black community but I think that his ideas could have made more of an impact on society by including the Hispanic culture and highlighting historical achievements of Blacks and Hispanics in order to show acknowledgment of other minorities who are of the same struggle and face similar obstacles as blacks. By doing something such as this, it allows for other minority groups who are underrepresented in political and economical advancement to see how a minority has chosen to highlight the importance of building relations with other fellow minority groups in an effort to combat many of the stigmas that plague each others group. Also, it will show that African-Americans and Hispanics experience similar hardships and are working together in order to change many of the ignorant stereotypes that have been placed upon them by society.Because many Black and Hispanic students do not see the importance of working together as a coalition within the educational system, it is important that many historically black colleges and universities continue funding collective minority efforts that display African-Americans and Hispanics working side by side such as student groups that incorporate minority groups as a whole and not just one particular group. By doing this, Hispanics or blacks who join the group will not feel threatened that the group is only based on certain traditional or cultural beliefs but addressing universal minority problems that are applicable to all minorities of America. Also, this will show other minority groups that minorities can come together and collectively work without the thought of differences or doubt about the goals that each group is striving to achieve collectively. As the Hispanic population continues to grow in the United States, it is important that African-Americans become a group that embraces Hispanics because many statistics highlight both groups at the bottom of advancement in wealth, education, and political power, so it is important for Hispanic and Black officials to highlight these points throughout each community and show the importance of both groups working together and collectively making their issues known within the political system. By Black and Hispanic leaders acknowledging the importance of each other working together, they will begin to show unity and solidarity for one another. They will value each other and become aware that they are groups that experience similar hardships and are working to improve their groups. They will realize that their individual efforts can be collaborated with each others and will not fear that one group is advancing more than the other group. By having unity between Black and Hispanic leaders, this will transcend into communities of fellow Blacks and Hispanics and they will soon begin connecting with one another and working together because they see the importance of each group coming together in order to combat the perpetuated ignorance and negativity of their races by society. They will understand that working together as a universal minority coalition in order to advance politically, culturally, and economically is better then being divided ultimately being pitted against each another.
