Why should Hispanics and African Americans join together to fight for equal rights? It is because the color of our skin makes a difference in our every day decisions. It is not just about the character of the man. It is about his stature in white man's society and what he deems "normal". What is normal? How do you define "normal"? Because we are considered a minority, there isn't a better reason as to why we should stand up and let our voices be heard. We work hard for our money so our children can stand up for what they believe in as well. We cannot sit idly and watch injustices be committed because of prejudice. If you really think about it though a minority can be considered anything really. Asians, people of size, people of a different ethnic group, the disabled, the elderly, and everyone else who does not fit into the cookie-cutter idea of what society is supposed to be like. I personally admire many black people and their strength, endurance, and passion for what they do. Being black makes no difference to them. It shouldn't even be thrown in the mix. Yet every day they find another reason to feel belittled, berated, ostracized, and tossed out into the open because of stereotyping. At the same time, hispanics are often viewed upon as illegal, illiterate, oriented in fast food, and unable to get real jobs. The reality of this assumption is that many hispanic-americans are in fact very much legal in the United States. They are mexican because they have to be not because they chose to be. In short, African Americans and Hispanics should fight together as one unit. We are no different than each other and yet we are very seperated by stereotyping and racial slurs. To end this, we must show the world that we are who we are and no amount of prayer, skin bleach, or westernization will ever change that.
