United We Can Grow StrongerThe United States is a country that offers great opportunities. It is a country composed primarily by immigrants. Over 38% of the population is non-Caucasian and of those, African Americans and Hispanics are the two largest minorities which together can potentially become the majority. It is known that united we stand stronger. That should be our motto between African Americans and Hispanics in order to be politically, culturally, and intellectually strong. African Americans and Hispanics are the largest minorities and unfortunately we have not taken full advantage of this. Although, we are realizing the advantage that minorities have in this country, such as access to a decent education for all. In addition, minorities have been able to gain political and cultural opportunities. The right to vote, for example is a right that is underutilized. Many of the minorities that have the right to vote do not vote because of their lack of faith in the system, which may be associated with the lack of education and understanding of the importance of voting. As a result, there is inequality of opportunities for the minority groups. We owe it to our past generations who have helped to open the doors of opportunities. Thanks to the minorities who pursued to obtain a better quality of life, our generation has greater facility to obtain higher education. That is why today African Americans as well as Hispanics continue to prepare ourselves academically in order to obtain the opportunities other minorities have been able to reach. This is why it is important for minorities to work together to address political, cultural, communication, and community issues. Together we are able to influence each of the aforementioned issues and proof to our country that as minorities we can make a great difference. Together we can help our country grow culturally and economically.
The majority of African Americans and Hispanics are also at a disadvantage because of the lack of education. Both groups have the highest drop out rate and are least likely to obtain any post secondary education. The less educated, the less likely we are to succeed politically and culturally. Also, education is an important factor to help strengthen the relationship between African Americans and Hispanics in the United States. If our relationship between African Americans and Hispanics is strengthened we will be able to obtain greater political and cultural influence. Universities should stimulate everyone to set higher goals and standards for ourselves by providing moral and financial support. The main problem for drop out students is lack of financial and moral support. By helping to bring out each individual’s potential we can motivate students to be the best they can be. It is important for minorities to understand that together we can make a bigger difference and we can start by learning to work together and understand each other. Colleges and Universities play a huge role in the progression of society. School plays an important role in shaping a person and society. It is important for schools to continue to support the needs of minorities in order to live in a better society where minorities can benefit from the opportunities available to us. As minorities, African Americans and Hispanics understand the negative and positive issues that minorities face. Therefore, together we can grow stronger to overcome any obstacles and learn from each other in order to stand proud of what we contribute to our country.
