African American & Hispanic Unity Essay In the United States, Blacks and Hispanics are looked down regardless of what anyone says especially about having an equal opportunity. Blacks and Hispanic struggle not only in trying to tackle each day but also in trying to tackle our neighbors, people and our love ones. My purpose of this paper is to write about why the Blacks and Hispanics in the United States should work together as minorities to address political, cultural, communication, and community issues. Yet ironically, Hispanics are the largest and fastest growing minority population in the United States today. They constitute approximately 14% or 1 in 7 of the overall population in the U.S. Furthermore, by the year 2050, it is estimated they will amount to 25% of the overall population or 1 in 4 persons. African Americans similarly constitute 13% of the U.S. population presently and united together, these two communities could very well make up nearly half of all Americans as to constitute a new significant political, cultural and racial force of influence to redefine this country’s socioeconomic landscape. Moreover, not only is America changing, but the world is too. Both groups are full of different histories but yet they both overcame many barriers, disapproval, and hardships, from this both minorities can learn from each others experiences and work together. Whether these barriers and hardships arise due to language barriers, dark complexion, educational inequities or poverty, both minority communities can learn from each others experiences of discrimination, their unique contributions and struggles and begin to work together. For example African Americans and Hispanics have both contributed to agricultural skills, making different kinds of food, clothing styles, music, language and technology that are still bringing to the American Culture. By learning each other’s important issues, languages, dances, cultures and histories, these two communities can begin to communicate a lot faster and make newer friends that they too can use to build new friendships with others. A college education is one of the most important indicators of lifelong economic success. Colleges and Universities should continue to support the needs of African Americans and Hispanics because our survival depends on the education of young minds. Historically Black Colleges and Universities are institutions that were established prior to educate black Americans. Perhaps one of the greatest struggles faced by blacks in the United States has been the struggle to be educated. While much ground has been gained in the last couple of decades with increasing percentages of black students finishing high school, there are still an alarming many who either cannot afford to attend college or who lack the resources and guidance to lead them in those directions. Many blacks still come from middle to lower income households and most have no other family members with a college education. Many institutions have helped black students bridge race related economic barriers, making a college education possible for minorities. With Hispanics graduating from high school now and in the future, colleges need to step up to accommodate the nation's largest minority. However, there are barriers in higher education which Hispanic leadership developed. One of these barriers is institutional racism which means admissions-the SAT was designed to predict the student’s academic performance and the lack of programming available directly to the Hispanics. Therefore, schools are now succeeding in helping the Hispanics by offering after school programs and scholarships. Now, more and more federal, state, private companies and organizations are being driven to support all minority students in higher education.
