It is the popular belief that the African American community is considered to be the menial breed, the ones to be slandered or belittled. Not only do our fellow Americans believe this to be so about African Americans but also about other minority groups in this country. The Hispanic community in the United States is also a derogatory target for those of the “superior race”. If this is the case then why should we, “the inferior races” make a clear and distinct division amongst ourselves. We should strive to help one another for the good of our own communities.Working together as a team would make both cultural groups so much stronger. Instead of succumbing to ethics and principals in which we do not believe, we could rise together to make our voices heard. This is why we should work together to address political, cultural, communication, and community issues. One person may not make the difference but the entire group can work together to make a true difference not only in their community but also eventually around the globe. To make the African and Hispanic communities stronger it is my opinion that two major steps must be taken. First and foremost, I believe that we must stop down-talking one another. How can you expect to be on one accord if all you do is criticize someone or something just because it may be different from what you are accustomed? Another important issue which must be extinguished are the gangs which exist between the Hispanics and the African Americans. We can not better ourselves if we are only slowly but surely bringing ourselves down. Killing off one another one by one, diminishing our races just as “they” expect of us.Finally, the Historically Black Colleges and Universities should continue to support the needs of African American students and possibly the needs of the growing Hispanic population because if they do not then who else will. The other colleges in this country only cater to the needs of the minorities because of affirmative action. This is why the backing of the predominately black universities is a vital part of furthering the education of minorities in America. We need their support in order to become the doctors, lawyers, and teachers that we know that we can be but that no one else expects us to become. In conclusion, I would just like to say that all minorities should bind together in order for each of us to prosper. Just as the old saying goes two heads are better than one and in this sense that could not be more true. As stated in the above one person may not be able to make a stand alone but if joined with others it be all the difference needed to aid a change.
