My name is Janis Dinkins, I’m an African American, and I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Ca. I am 17 years of age and I'm an inspired by my love for music and my passion for writing. I graduated from Santa Cruz High School a semester early so I could be focused on getting scholarship money together. I ended my high school career with a solid 3.0 average. I was awarded about for scholarships last night at my high school's senior awards night. Wow, it was such and enriching experience to be recognized for my achievements in high school. I was never the smartest kid and defiantly not the most athletic but I believe I was always the most driven and focused. I’ve always wanted to be in the entertainment industry and I always new my way in would be through my love for music and my passion for writing. I friend told me about a great music college in Hollywood, Ca. The school just so happened to be in the city I’ve always wanted to live in and it just so happened to be a school of music. The Musician’s Institute is a college for people who want to work in the music industry. The school doesn’t only focus on one thing; it focuses on all aspects of the music industry. I’m going to MI to study the music business. It’s a six month fast track program that gets your foot in the door. While you take classes, you also will automatically be getting and internship at a record label. It’s a very completive 6 month program that is very expensive. My tuition is going to be about $8,500 and that’s not including housing. I’ll be living in independent housing because my school does not have housing. The money rates for rent vary but I will need at least $700 a month for just rent alone and that’s including me living with a roommate. My family and I are in deep financial need and we can use all the help we can get. I just feel so blessed to be given this opportunity to even be considered for a scholarship. Thank you very much for your time.
