Need for UNITY Posted on 05-31-2007

We cannot allow socio-economic boundaries to divide us as Black people anymore. I have noticed that every other ethnic group or diversity group sticks together no matter what. That is why other minority groups progress while that of Black Americans sways in the background. Many a time I notice how other groups for instance, Hispanic American groups, help one another even if they have varying economic or social backgrounds. The fact that they speak the same language and are foreign to this place called America, they all help one another. This is our land, we were born here so why is it that we cannot unify our efforts and encourage one another to reach the top of the social and economic ladder? I wonder. It is more than my dream to see members of Elite Black American groups reach out to non-member Black Americans and extend a helping hand. For the truth is that whether you are rich or poor, educated or non-educated, at the end of the day, if you were born black you are still black even if you choose to bleach your skin! We all face the same dilemmas, the same hardships, struggle with the same diseases and the same issues just because we are black. So, my thoughts are if we join forces and come together we can have a better chance in overcoming mental slavery, hardships, racism and diseases that plague our race. For the voice of many will always be heard over the voice of one. This is why it is so important for us as Black people to look beyond our social groups and economic boundaries and re-build a sense of community. Now you may be wondering how this can be accomplished? How can a segmented group just come together and be effectively adhesive? The answer is through love. Once we can love ourselves for who we are, strong, black and beautiful individuals, then we will be able to love one another. Of all things, God says love is the greatest and really, love conquers all. Once we have a heart of love it will become easier for us to step out of our shells and step forward to assist one another. When I say assist one another that means those of us who have more should make their aide more visible, spread the wealth. If you have an overflow of funds, share them. Do not hoard the goods but share amongst your brothers and sisters and then the cycle will continue. To love one another is to help one another and to have the best in mind for your fellow black man. This is where the pieces of the puzzle can come together forming one body, one soul, one mind in an attempt to meet one goal; to grow a thriving nation of Blacks not only in America but across the globe. In fact, given the fact that we all have access to the internet we should continue to make use of things such as HSBCconnect, Facebook, and Myspace to get involved in all social groups despite economic differences and find out what is going on with our fellow Black sisters and brothers. Once we are privy to what is going on in one another's lives, then we can address the issues within our communities and then take it to greater scale and address outside of our communities. Then the healing begins and like a wound, once the healing begins you will regain strength. The strength can and will be regained within the Black community if we take the appropriate actions of change.
