A Minority's Struggle... Posted on 05-31-2007

Throughout history there are many trials and tribulations that both African Americans and Hispanics have faced. Many of the problems began within the communities, affecting our politics, our culture, and the way in which we communicate with one another. In effort to contain a gradual growth within our communities, we as a minority must come together for a common good to provide the ethics for our children to mature. Although, as many are aware, there may be many differences between Hispanics and the African American population that can present difficulties in the route to a successful change. Thus, putting aside our differences can make a major contribution toward addressing the problem at hand. Over the years, there have been many instances where racial discrimination has become the foundation for the confrontations that have taken place between African Americans and Hispanics. I find it to be self evident that if people spent more time understanding what it is that we as a “minority” have in common, and then maybe we could reach a common goal. However, in the end, its up to us as the upcoming generation to lead the youth into a new and improved society with fair politicians, versatile opportunities to learn about African American and Hispanic culture, while being positive influences in our communities. From personal experience, I am sure that there are many minority students that either wish or currently attend an HBCU but cannot find the proper finances to continue their education. If many of the HBCU had a working program that ensured that all students who wished to attend college had a guaranteed way of financing their education, I am sure that the needs of African Americans and Hispanics can be met, especially if given the opportunity to continue his or her education.
