African American & Hispanic Unity Posted on 05-31-2007

African Americans and Hispanics are two cultures that have been suppressed for many years here in the United States. Being that both of these race groups are minorities, they are also two of the strongest minority groups in the United States, and have been able to overcome many adversities. Both race groups have struggled and fought hard to get the rights that were theirs. Long, tireless and tedious battles were won and lost by both groups in order for them to get where we are today. Being able to get an education was not allowed in the past, but after African-Americans began to fight, and did not want to put up with the segregation anymore, they were finally able to do things some had only dreamed. It has always been said that two heads are better than one, and if African Americans and Hispanics came together to fight for different issues, we would be reassured that we would be able to make a difference, and to make an impact on our growing population. The number of both race groups in growing in the United States, and it is about time that our voices be heard, and our needs be met. I think with both groups fighting for rights, and taking a stand will help us develop a stronger relationship that will in turn be beneficial for all minorities. Hispanics and African Americans have to understand that we have all had to overcome many different obstacles in our lives. Working together would give us a chance to make an impact on the world around us, and to finally make a big difference for all Hispanics and African Americans living in the United States. Empowering Blacks and Hispanics can contribute a lot to our society, and working together would only make things happen faster, and make better things happen. Fighting and working together is what will ultimately make everyone truly equal in our country, we have come along way, but we are still not entirely equal. Yes the laws may be written as though everyone is an equal, but there is still a prejudice against many minorities in our nation. So with African-Americans and Hispanics working together, we would be able to make our country truly equal. Being that African Americans and Hispanics historically have struggled the most when it comes to getting an education, I think that these Historically Black College and Universities should continue to address the various needs of these individuals. The majority of Hispanics and African-Americans have different problems when applying for college, and being able to afford it and just the experience in itself. Many grew up in bad homes, bad neighborhoods, and poor families and went to bad schools. Going to college is an entirely different life and even a different world for them. They have first overcome the adversities that they suffered in school, and were able to make it into a college, and they are going to continue to need help to make it in life. To continue to support African-Americans, Hispanics, and Afro-Hispanics, these schools should be able to receive more funding from our government. Believe it or not, the number of minorities attending college is rising, and that is only going to mean that all of our schools are going to need more funding, and we are going to eventually need more schools.
