African Americans and Hispanics of the United States of America reside together at the bottom of the structure known as the hierarchy pyramid of Ethnocentrism. We as minorities need to unite and re-establish the hierarchy pyramid. Our place in this nation says that we are less humane than other races. We have fallen to the bottom due to hegemony over our mother lands: forcing competition amongst one another. Our collegiate level systems should and continue to support the needs of African American students as well as Hispanic students in order for our importance in this country to keep evolving. Our representation in political and community issues is very scarce. We lack representation in both the House and Senate as well other official community titles. This issue is creating an obstacle for our voices to be heard. Both races have been extremely exploited and mistreated for centuries. We have both come across obstacles that have slightly diminished the spirit of our cultures. Once we realize that we are more similar than different we can than begin to communicate efficiently. An issue that continues to take place in our communities is the crime rate that members our two cultures have created and still proceed in doing so. Criminals who are minorities have set the stereotypes for our cultures. This leads to a misrepresentation of who we truly are. We need to work together in order to get represented properly in society. In order to achieve this we need to strengthen the relationship between the two cultures. Before we can strengthen the relationship between the African American and Hispanic Community we need to educate our own cultures on our own histories. Once we know our own culture we will than be more accepting of others. Both cultures must also resist stereotypes of one another by attempting to appreciate what we have been taught to hate. The ending of socialization is an important component to ending the tension amongst both races. Our minds have been embedded with racist thoughts from our parents and grandparents. Once we break away from their insecure ways of thinking we can see a clear picture: free from stereotypes and free from hatred. In order to strengthen our bond with each other we must be aware of the ways in which our cultures marginalize. We must then prepare ourselves to make changes to the way that we function and behave in the presence of one another. The vibe that each culture delivers to one another is a key component for developing a relationship of peace and tranquility. African Americans and Hispanics need to get involved in each others communities and support one another’s interests. The fights and protests of both cultures benefit not just one culture but benefit both the African American population as well as the Hispanic population. We have failed to see how close and intertwined our cultures really are. Each cultures success is a success for all minority cultures. Black College’s and University’s need to continue to support the needs of African Americans students and start to help the needs of the growing Hispanic population. They should do this both financially and physically. School programs are needed in order to broaden each cultures horizon. Scholarship opportunities are needed to help those minorities who are at a disadvantage and struggle financially. Affirmative action needs to be in place in order for our country to take accountability for where we have been established on the hierarchy pyramid. By lending a hand to either the black community or the Hispanic community is benefiting minorities of the United States as a whole. Our cultures need to follow in the footsteps of our community leaders Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King Jr. We need to compound ourselves together into one community leaving no gaps for racist thoughts to seep through. Both cultures can use one another as a stepping stone to raising their spot on the pyramid. As minorities we need to be one another’s support system and succeed together. If we stand strong together we can flourish together in our prosperity.
