Its amazing to fathom that in 2007 Blacks and Hispanics are still facing inequality and racism on a daily basis. What’s even more alarming is the fact that there is racism amongst Blacks and Hispanics against other people in their own communities. As a young African American female I am forced to put up with racism almost on a daily basis at work and I can honestly agree that minorities( especially Blacks and Hispanics) should be bridging the gaps and unifying. Unification is the only way to get ahead in this world that is being ruled still in the twenty first century by white society. Honestly I believe that Blacks and Hispanics should work together because both cultures understand what its like to struggle and also how it feels to be looked down on as the inferior race. Blacks have been looked at as sub human inferior beings since we were first imported here as **** labor. Hispanics have also been exploited as **** labor in their own countries as well as in our country today with the **** of illegal immigrants. Politically the two races are just started to gain power and actually have influence in our world. Without the backing of society we are asking for our voices and opinions not to be heard as well as allowing ourselves to be controlled by the whites. Its way overdue for this country to have minorities in powerful political positions and our country also needs to realize that Blacks and Hispanics are also intelligent enough to make decision that better our country as well. From a cultural standpoint I believe that Blacks and Hispanics also need to work together to understand each others differences so that they can show the world that being black or Hispanic is just as beautiful as being Caucasian or any other race. The two races have so much in common and yet they fail to realize that they should be unifying instead of disagreeing on issues. Problems such as racism, poverty, illiteracy, illicit drug use, gangs and murder plague both races and they should be working together to end the vicious cycles that aid in keeping both races from the forefront. If there were better communication between the races then these problems could maybe have solutions. Both minorities have communication issues not only within the races but with the rest of the world. They are misrepresented and constantly misunderstood. Blacks and Hispanics need to stand up and put their foot down. There are too many brilliant minorities that voices need to be heard but instead are suppressed. We need to help mold the worlds new leaders so that more changes can be put in place to better our communities as well as the world. I believe that in order to strengthen and unify the two cultures racism and biased tendencies need to be thrown out. First off we must remember that we are all people even if we don’t share the same skin color or have the same beliefs and that we shouldn’t hold racist views if we ourselves don’t like to be discriminated against. Then we also need to again realize that we are fighting the same war and that the more help we have from each other (allies) the more strength we actually have in order to make the changes. Countries never won wars when they had their own civil wars going amongst themselves and we won’t win the war to end the vicious cycles if we don’t work together. As it stands now in 2007 there is still the same racism that existed in the 1960's against both Blacks and Hispanics. We’ve been fighting the racism war to no avail and I believe if we join the two forces together the world will be in for a surprise. The two races need to come to an understanding that we should no longer accept what is being given but always strive to obtain more, that living in poverty isn’t an acceptable method of life and that killing each other over **** or any other reason is ridiculous . Both sides need to also agree to become committed to the idea of Blacks and Hispanics even becoming apart of the educated **** class of America. We need to start doing better in schools and striving to obtain a college level education. I was always told that as a young African American woman I was born with two disadvantages, one I was black, and two I was a female. I’ve been able to overcome the obstacles in my path and am pleased to be attending Spelman College where I hope to one day make a difference in my community and make so many of the changes that our societies desperately need to see. I believe that Historically Black Colleges and Universities are probably the best type of colleges for minorities to attend because they instill value and tradition within the individual and they also serve to prove to America everyday that African Americans are able to excel in the world as well as Caucasians . They help us as students realize that there are educated brothers and sisters out there trying to make a difference and committed to helping fellow brothers and sisters reach their goals as well. The atmospheres of these colleges are centered around empowerment and freedom and quite frankly I wouldn’t personally attend any college that wasn’t an HBCU. For me HBCU’s remind people that education is important to success in the black community and they give you hope that other colleges can’t provide. For me I thank god that HBCU’s even exist, because during my secondary years of education I was always looked down upon or challenged because I wasn’t Caucasian as so obviously I couldn’t be as smart or smarter than my Caucasian classmates. HBCU’s give you an environment that isn’t racially charged and provide you an education that isn’t biased. I also love the idea of HBCU’s because then you really know that if your accepted its because you meet the requirements and not because there was some quota that they needed to fill. I always believe that colleges shouldn’t base admissions off of race, that grades and extracurricular should be what defines your acceptances. I also believe that HBCU’s should extend their doors to other minorities including Hispanics since technically we are trying to end racism. Minorities need to stick together and if we exclude Hispanics from our colleges then we are sending the message that we don’t want to associate with them. All of the benefits that African American’s get from attending these colleges can also benefit the Hispanic community as well. If we as African Americans and Hispanics learn to accept each other and work together we can end the problems that plague our society and one day end racism and be the new **** classes of America but it takes time and unification to reach both of these goals.
