African American & Hispanic Unity Posted on 07-10-2007

African Americans and Hispanics in the United States should most definitely work together as minorities to address political, cultural, communication, and community issues. Studies have shown that in the next ten years, Hispanics, not caucasians, will be the majority in the United States of America. Though we will all be continued to be referred to as minorities no matter what, numbers never lie. We should not seperate ourselves into two seperate minorites, but come together as one majority. This way we will have unimagined strength to make those much needed changes in politics, culture, communication and community issues. All United States citizens should be allowed fair treatment and rights. It should not depend on your race and social status. If we work together I think we can attain this goal. The best way to strengthen any relationship is through education and knowledge. We are so quick to judge one another on our actions, but people often do not take the time to learn why this reaction ( or lack thereof has occured ). Historically Black College & Universities should continue to support the needs of African American Students and possibly the needs of the growing hispanic (and afro-hispanic) population in the United States by educating them. I feel that firstly accepting higher numbers of hispanics would make them feel wanted and appreciated in our community. We have been through some of the same struggles so we should fight them together!!
