We all know that Michael Jordan is one of the most influential people in OUR lifetime (our agegroup) among the young crowd from back in the day. Since we've pretty much fully grown out of childhood, look back with me on a few influential people from your younger days.
What other people, BESIDES friends and relatives, are of the most influential people in your entire lifetime?
Magic Johnson. Brother let everybody know about his disease, and how not to get it. Blacks probably wouldn't care much about the HIV virus if someone big in our culture hadn't came out and claimed the disease as his.
Mr. Washington. 7th grade teacher. He and I had a lotta talks that helped prepare me for life after private school.
Michael Jordan. Obvious reasons. He strived for excellence, and everytime he put his mind to something, he kicked **** at it. His mind wasn't on baseball, tho. Thats why he came back to Chicago to win more rings.
Charles Barkley. I learned how to express myself with high volume by growing up listening to this guy.
Tina Turner...homegurl went THRU it forREAL throughout the first half of her life, but manage to come out of all of it and be better than ever....overcome her oppresser (Ike)....and even look better & more fierce in her 60s than in her 20s !!!
Melba Patillo Beals...one of the 9 students who integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in i think it wuz 1949...of course, all of them r to be admired, but she was the one who's book i read....& just to hear about her courage and bravery as well as that of the rest....definitely can't help but to respect 'em....
Princess Diana...she was so beautiful on the inside and out....all she wanted was to help people and bring forth peace....she was young, attractive, and wealthy (thanks to who she had been married to), yet felt the need to do for others and give to others....a younger & White Mother Teresa, in my opinion....she was definitely ok in my book....
Oprah...now, i might not necessarily agree with certain things she does for her show....like most of her audiences not consisting of members of the same race she's apart of....but you can't deny how powerful and so highly-respected by many this woman is....she overcame a whole lot too....and just to be at the status she's at now....she could do practically whatever she wants and people be less-likely to question it than if she were someone else, White OR Black....status-wise...priminence-wise....money-wise....THIS is a person to be patterned after!
i'll be back w/ more later...
Mr. Wilbert Bryant....Presidental Appointee...he is head of the Department of Postsecondary Education for HBCUs..he is friends with my parents and i met him for the first time the other day
he gave me great advice on how to go about pursuing my career and he is willing to give me an internship. he is a bright man. a couple years ago his daughter got **** right after she graduated college, a man was tryna **** her adn she was tryna escape and the man shot her....thats so sad
but i look up to him awhole lot
Bill Clinton- He was “Our President” you all. This man did a lot more for African-American then any other president. He started the highest home ownership in the country's history, dropping crime rates in many places, and reduced welfare roles. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades and achieved a budget surplus. As part of a plan to celebrate the millennium in 2000, Clinton called for a great national initiative to end racial discrimination.
Oprah- I have not really been a Oprah a viewer, however being a outsider looking in, I have seen that she is a very good role model for African-Americans, especially for African-American women
The Jackson family- As fu*ked up as the family may seem to the public eye, we have to give them credit for being the first and only Royal Black family. Whenever a family member in a crisis, the family seem to stick together and show that they are a family. Plus Janet and Mike have touch many lives through out the years buy give money and time to countless charities.
Robert “Bob” Johnson- This man is a true example of a REAL businessman. Being a intern for the Bobcats has really open my eyes to the fact that this man is really doing up as a Black businessmen. I continue to be amazed by his contributions to the African-American community.
My Family- I know it was said other then family, however my family is my life, without them I’m nothing.
serena&venus williams...They came straight out the hood..straight out of compton.. and still managed to achieve there goals and there great tennis players.. and they kinda broke that stereotype of just beacause they came out of compton they have to be all loud and ghetto and stuff or whatever but there really intelligent beautiful black woman..they make it where all children and people wherever they came from have hope that they can achieve there dreams.
oprah...she went threw so much in her life being called ****, being **** e.t.c...and still she stands and has one of the most popular tv shows in america and is one of the most smart successful black women..go on oprah lol
my bestfriend..my number one role model..the person i look up to..she went threw so much in her life she battled cancer(but she died last year R.I.P Hope evans...and she was such a beautiful person inside and out..and she always told me to never give up and keep my head up when times get hard
